Who hasn’t dreamed of a life on the road, able to go where you want, when you want, the captain of your own itinerary? Whether it’s cruising through California’s wine country, trundling around Holland’s rural scenery or breezing through postcard-pretty Normandy, the camper van trip has a special place in the imagination. Just put the key in the ignition, and drive off to embark on the trip of a lifetime.
However, for those who’d rather leave the planning to someone else, the famous hotel chain The Hoxton is offering a series of curated camper van experiences, for a summer holiday full of adventure. What could be better, after being cooped up for over a year, than a wild swim, a campfire with drinks under the stars, or waking up to the roar of the ocean on your front porch? Than off-the-beaten-path beauty spots, beaches, rambles, picnic stops and local lunch recommendations being the order of the day?
Guests can now choose between four-night adventures in the UK, Amsterdam and Paris, or a three-night trip in LA. All itineraries include a final night spent at The Hoxton. The UK tour ferries you initially to the coastline of East Sussex, where guests will stay on a working farm with pigs, donkeys and ponies, before being transported through some of England’s oldest towns and local vineyards. A night on the Kent Riviera follows, before heading back to The Hox for a night in London (in Shoreditch, Holborn or Southwark). They really have taken care of everything, including pre-booking all the campsites – there’s no need to lift a finger.
Available from 27th May to 27th September, Hox’s VW California T6s fit two adults comfortably, though there’s room for small children and babies too. Each van includes Roberts radios, Hoxton linen and towels and Origin coffee for those sleepy in-van breakfasts. There’s also a portable BBQ for al-fresco dinners, bikes for off-road adventures, camping chairs, and a generously sized fridge stocked with wine, beers and soft drinks.
The concept follows on from 2020’s sell-out Camp Hox pop-up in Oxfordshire, which was launched in the summer of 2020 as a direct response to the pandemic. The 12-tent pop-up combined the comfort of a Hoxton hotel room with the beauty of the natural world, and sold out within days.
“We pulled Camp Hox together in record time,” says The Hoxton’s CMO Martina Luger. ”It was incredibly popular and well received. We love the idea of being able to take The Hoxton experience outside of our four walls and explore what that might look like, allowing us to curate not just a space but a whole Hoxton-curated adventure for our guests. This year’s campervan experience strives to celebrate the idea of getting back out there exploring, and responds to what people are really wanting and needing right now. We can’t wait to see the adventures unfold.”
Sounds perfect to us.
