Robb Recommends: Ettinger’s First Watch Roll

What makes a new possession a ‘statement piece’? It’s a question that could be debated for hours, but a possession which demonstrates that the owner’s love of the finer things in life is so passionate, a) one is never enough and b) he or she obsesses over looking after them well gets the nod from us. A humidor is a fine example – or, pushing the boat out even more, a wine cellar or a treble garage (depending on what’s in each).

So we were delighted to see that, among the new additions to its popular Lifestyle Collection, Ettinger has launched its first ever watch roll. Designed to hold two watches securely, the new roll is suede lined, has a dividing ring to keep the contents separate and two monogrammed popper closures which accommodate different sized watches – so your Cartier Tank will look in situ even when placed next to the chunkiest Panerai Luminor Submersible. Available in eight different colours (£275), it can be personalised on the outside with up to five initials.

Moving onto long-standing Ettinger staples, look out, too, for four new wallets from the British leather accessories brand: a new, slimmer iteration of the traditional Ettinger Long Coat Wallet with a long zipped pocket on one side and credit card slots on the other (£190); the new ‘Magic Wallet’, which secures your bank notes in place using elastic straps when you close it (£120 in the Bridle Hide, £125 in the Sterling Collection); and two new billfold wallets (£275 for the ten-card option, £265 for the six-card option).

Other new Ettinger offerings include a navy belt to join the current black, dark brown and dark tan options (£135 for the classic, 30mm version, /£140 for the 35mm, more relaxed style) and an A5 notebook cover (£160) and pencil case (£105), available in the popular Sterling Collection – both black, with orange, red, purple or turquoise interiors.

“Founded by my father 85 years ago this year, the company has always hand-crafted a beautiful selection of leather gifts and accessories for men and women and for all areas of our lifestyles – so I’m delighted to be launching our first ever watch roll,” says Robert Ettinger, the company’s CEO. “We’re also increasingly well known for our extensive wallet selection and, given the on-going changes in how we use both cards and cash today, are launching some new wallet styles to suit customer requirements. We always listen to customer feedback and work on ways to create new products for our ever changing world. And in the same vein, we are again expanding our stationery offering as more of our customers prefer a beautiful notebook or pen holder to re-engage with the art of writing.”
