Both new and yet extremely familiar.
In what’s a dream for many, a dedicated team of talented UK craftspeople has – after approximately 4500 hours of meticulous construction – put the finishing touches on Aston Martin’s new DB5 Goldfinger Continuation line.
The ‘Job 1’ DB5 marks the first time the model has rolled off the production line at Aston Martin Works in 50 years.
With fewer than 900 saloon examples built between 1963 and 1965, the DB5 remains one of the world’s most desirable classics, aided by its scene stealing performance alongside Sean Connery in the 1964 James Bond film, Goldfinger.
Now, in association with Bond filmmaker EON productions, a number of strictly limited, new DB5s have received the ‘Q’ treatment – securing a suite of gadgets as seen in the original film.
While you won’t be able to blast enemies with retractable machine guns, the car does come with rear smoke screen and oil slick delivery systems, front and rear revolving number plates, simulated front machine guns, bullet resistant rear shield, front and rear battering rams, simulated tyre slasher and removable passenger seat roof panel.
While that list covers the exterior, inside sees simulated radar screen tracker map, driver’s door telephone, gear knob actuator button, armrest and centre console-mounted switchgear, under-seat hidden weapons (storage) tray and remote-control gadget activation.
Each of the 25 new cars are meticulously detailed reproductions of the DB5 seen on screen, and as such, are built to one exterior paint specification – Silver Birch.
Beyond the gadgetry and gimmicks, each car features original DB5 aluminium body panels and a 4.0 litre naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine, capable of 290hp.
Deliveries of the vehicles have now commenced.
