On the hunt for a head-turning statement piece for your home? It’s hard to think of a more stunningly designed one than this, a piece from the fertile imagination of one of the most influential designers of his generation.
The ‘Orgone’ chair – which channels Newson’s lifelong fascination with the streamlined ‘Continental look’, as seen in Italian sports cars of the 1950s and 60s – will go under the hammer in a 175-lot auction that also features works by Claude Lalanne, Jean Dunand, Edmund de Waal and Shiro Kuramata.
“Live sales continue to be a cornerstone of our business therefore it is with great joy that we are able to stage a full-scale preview of these exceptional works,” says Domenico Raimondo, Head of Design, Europe and Senior International Specialist at Phillips. “Virtual tours will also enable collectors to ‘visit’ the preview exhibition and view the works in conversation with each other within the gallery.
“This June we are delighted to present a carefully curated selection of works celebrating design in its many forms and reflecting Phillips’ approach to giving a fresh perspective to traditional collecting categories. Following the successes of 2019, which demonstrated strong international demand for Italian and French Post-War design, we are offering exceptional examples of Italian Pre and Post-War design…”
The pre-sale public viewing is currently set to happen by appointment only from 15 to 19 June, with collectors also welcomed into the saleroom remotely with a digitally enhanced viewing experience.
