In 1960 – the same year that Morris Motors Limited was putting the finishing touches to the Mini Cooper, and the now iconic Eames Executive Chair, originally meant only for the lobbies of the Time-Life Building at Rockefeller Center, hit the market – German kitchen manufacturer SieMatic added its own piece of revolutionary design to the canon: the handle-free kitchen.
The resulting kitchens’ clean, flawless façades remain as popular today as they were 50 years ago, and it’s not just consumers whose enthusiasm remains unabated: few eyebrows were raised when the latest of the North Rhine-Westphalian company’s kitchen environments to feature handle-free units, the SieMatic SLX PURE, took the ‘Innovative Interior’ gong at the Iconic Awards 2020 earlier this year.
The latest of a trio of kitchen style options SieMatic has created to complement and enhance customers’ existing living environments – the others being the URBAN style collection and the CLASSIC style collection – SieMatic SLX PURE is an adroit fusion of kitchen and living room. What makes it such a design feat? The pictures before you go a long way to answering that question. A masterful marriage of form and function, aesthetically speaking SieMatic SLX PURE is far greater than the sum of its parts, which include filigree proportions, transparent surfaces, floating pull-outs, transparent doors and sides and completely redesigned horizontal and vertical recessed grips.
A range of matt and glossy colour palates, available thanks to the SieMatic ColorSystem, mean that the kitchen you create is truly your own, and can be designed to induce a range of different emotional nuances, with further choice offered by lighting options that run the gamut between cool and cosy – with elegant, inviting, generous and even seductive thrown into the mix – thanks to discreetly integrated, individually controllable batten luminaires.
“The SieMatic SLX PURE impresses with clear lines and great proportions,” said a statement by the Iconic Awards’ five-person jury. “Cleverly integrated light lets the worktop float in the air, further enhancing the impression of elegance and high quality. Worth mentioning here are also the recessed grips which, as a design element, additionally underline the extraordinary design standards.”
SieMatic’s entire brand identity, meanwhile, has been nominated for the German Brand Award 2020, having won gold in that competition in 2016.
